GC Rotary Valves

For nearly 60 years, VICI has set the industry standard by designing and manufacturing the original GC rotary valves. There may be other manufacturers that copied the look of our valves, but they are not of equal quality. For superior flow-path control, VICI’s collection of precision-machined injection, switching/sampling, internal-sampling injector, and selection valves enables automated operation of gas chromatography systems. 

Design Advantages

Our GC rotary valves are known for their reliability, easy maintenance, and flexible configuration options. The VICI GC rotary valve design lends itself to a unique variety of connecting slots and port arrangements. The rotor is held in place by a preload assembly that allows rotor replacement without removing loops and tubing and without disengaging the valve from the actuator or mounting bracket. In addition, the preload assembly ensures that the valve is always reassembled to the factory-set tension.

We offer a wide range of options to meet most GC application needs:

  • 1/32”, 1/16”, ⅛” and ¼” zero dead volume (ZDV) fittings
  • 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14-port and two-position versions
  • Five multiposition flowpath configurations with as many as 16 positions
  • Configuration options for use at temperatures up to 350°C or pressures up to 5,000 psi
  • Operable with manual or automated (pneumatic or electric) actuators
  • Bore sizes of 0.010” (0.25 mm), 0.016” (0.40 mm), and 0.03” (0.75 mm)

Valve components are fabricated from a variety of materials suitable for use in hostile environments and for continued operation at elevated temperatures. Standard valve bodies are made from Nitronic 60 (N60) stainless steel, a gall-resistant metal that has proven superior to Type 316 or 303 in the majority of applications. 

Medium temperature GC valves typically have a rotor made of Valcon E, a polyaryletherketone/PTFE composite. High-temperature GC valves typically use Valcon T, a polyimide/PTFE/carbon composite. In addition, VICI offers the widest range of body and rotor materials of any valve available, including alloys such as Type 316 Stainless Steel, Hastelloy C, Titanium, and polymers capable of meeting virtually any system requirement. 

GC valves usually require a standoff—an extension between the valve and actuator which allows the valve to be mounted in the heated zone while the actuator or handle remains outside at ambient temperature.
