Heated Gas Purifiers

Carrier gas purity is essential in any extremely sensitive application. Impurities limit detector sensitivity and can even destroy capillary columns. VICI’s gettering purifiers for helium (Product #HP2) and nitrogen (Product #NP2) provide "point-of-use" gas purification to sub-ppm levels of reactive gaseous impurities.

  • The HP2 purifies helium and other noble gases, such as Ar, Ne, Kr, and Xe. Based on 10 ppm total inlet impurities, outlet impurities are less than 10 ppb for H2O, H2, O2, N2, NO, NH3, CO, CO2, and CH4. Other impurities removed include CF4, CCl4, SiH4, and light hydrocarbons.

  • The NP2 purifies nitrogen (N2). Based on 10 ppm total inlet impurities, outlet impurities are less than 10 ppb for H2O, H2, O2, NO, NH3, CO, and CO2. Other impurities removed include CF4, CCl4, SiH4, and light hydrocarbons. However, CH4, He, Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe, and Rn are not removed.

The HP2 and NP2 purifiers feature a self-regulating design that eliminates the possibility of thermal runaway and maintains the getter material at the optimum temperature.

Miniature versions of both helium and nitrogen purifiers are also available. These are designed to be installed in a gas chromatograph's flow path immediately upstream of the injector or for other point-of-use applications. They will remove any contaminants introduced by flow controllers, elastomeric tube seals, pressure regulators, crude traps, or other system components that are not completely clean and leak-tight.

The standard purifier models can handle up to 1 Lpm flow rate, and are intended to purify the gas required for a single instrument; the miniature versions have a smaller flow capacity. The HP2 and NP2 operate at a maximum pressure of 1000 psig; the HPM/NPM mini purifiers operate at a maximum of 200 psig. VICI purifiers are CE compliant.

NOTE: Our heated helium purifiers are unsurpassed at removing nitrogen. For applications that can tolerate slightly more nitrogen, VICI’s unheated helium purifiers offer an economical option.
