For superior flow path control, VICI’s CheminertⓇ collection of two-position sampling/switching valves have a flat-plate design. They provide a wide range of options for number of ports and positions, fitting sizes, ID/OD, and configuration to suit an array of applications:
- UHPLC Sampling/Switching Valves - NanovolumeⓇ (100-150 μm) and microbore (250 μm) bore sizes, these valves are ideal for high speed, high-throughput nano HPLC techniques, with proprietary rotor and stator materials that can achieve pressures up to 20,000 psi in some models.
- HPLC Sampling/Switching Valves - Available in NanovolumeⓇ (100-150, microbore (0.25 mm) and analytical (0.40 mm) bore sizes, these flat plate valves include 4, 6, 8, and 10-port versions, a through-the handle front-loading injector, and a continuous flow injector. They feature 1/32” or 1/16” zero dead volume fittings with bore sizes from 0.1 mm (.004”) to 0.75 mm (.030”). They operate up to 5,000 psi.
- HPLC Internal Injection Valves - available in 4, 10, or 20 nanoliter sample sizes, these model C4N internal sample injector valves operate up to 5,000 psi and come with 1/32” fittings.
- Low Pressure Sampling/Switching Valves - this line offers valves with 4, 6, 8, or 10 ports and multiple options for fitting sizes: 1/16” zero dead volume fittings; ¼-28 fittings for 1/16” or ⅛” tubing; or ½-20 fittings for ¼ tubing.
- Low Pressure Internal Injection Valves - for applications where the sample size is smaller than any available external loop, for 0.2 μl, 0.5 μl, and 1 μl.

Two-position Valves
Also known under the name Cheminert, the flat-plate design of our two-position valves offers flexible use options. Typically, 6-port valves with external loops are used for sample injection and thus referred to as “injectors”. However,VICI 6 port valves can do more than inject sample; they and our 8-, and 10-port valves can be sample injectors at the same time they’re also being backflushers or column switchers. The VICI 4 port internal sampling valve—used when the sample size must be smaller than the smallest available loop—uses engraved slots on the rotor to connect the ports and to contain a specific amount of sample.
In the two-position valve design, a stator is held at a constant, preset force against the rotor. Replacement of worn rotors is easy–simply remove 2-3 screws and remove the old rotor. Once a new rotor is screwed in place, the valve is ready for use at the factory-set pressure specification–no adjustments needed. Other advantages of these valves include easy panel mounting, low actuating torque, and compact size. The flat plate design enables users to control basic flow switching, sample injection, and stream selection up to 10 positions; some models enable up to 28 positions.
